Restoration 2000 GT Veloce

Ma Petite Italienne is a restoration specialist for classic Italian cars. Our workshop has even specialised in two models, the GTC and the Bertone coupés.

That is why the owner of this Verde Oliva Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce came to us.

The car was near Reims and we brought it back to our workshop for a full restoration. The bodywork in particular needed a great deal of care.

At the time of purchase

When the car arrived in our workshop, it was clear that the years had taken their toll on the bodywork. Many panels were badly damaged and the restoration promised to be long.

Dismantling

Before starting the restoration proper, the car has to be stripped. So the Ma Petite Italienne team sets about dismantling the Verde Oliva Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce.

Bodywork

From the moment the car arrived, we knew there would be a lot of bodywork.

The first step is to cut out the parts too corroded to repair and put the car on the rotisserie.

The car is then fully aqua blasted. We then apply an anti-corrosion epoxy primer to some parts.

Although it was not planned before stripping, we decided to start again from a sound base by replacing the left front wing, the right rear wing and the boot floor.

Priming before paint

Once the panel work is finished, the shell and opening panels are filled and primed. We take the opportunity to fit the various seals and apply stone-chip protection.

Painting

The Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce is painted in two stages. The first is to apply the Alfa colour to the interior and underside of the car.

The complete shell then gets back its original colour before returning to the workshop for reassembly.

Reassembly

Finally, we tackle the final reassembly of the car. The mechanicals go back in place, as does the interior. Some parts were refurbished, others replaced with new old stock parts we have in stock.

The finished car

The restoration was complicated, but in the end the car is finished. It bears little resemblance to how it looked before. After a few tests to check that both the mechanicals and the accessories work, it is time for its owner to get back behind the wheel.
